Alex Neish Collection
Alex Neish, a Scottish Protestant now retired in Barcelona, followed the restoration of the Ancient Synagogue of Barcelona from its earliest stages. As one of the world’s leading collectors of pewter artifacts, he recognized the synagogue as the ideal home for his remarkable collection of Judaica.
Over more than three decades, he assembled an extraordinary collection reflecting Jewish faith, traditions, and ritual life. Thanks to the work of Swiss expert Jan Gadd, many of these unique pieces were identified and documented. Today, they remain permanently displayed within the synagogue as a testament to Jewish heritage and history.
Menorah by Ferrán Aguiló
When the Synagogue of Barcelona reopened to the public in 2002, the Mallorcan artist Ferrán Aguiló donated the magnificent Menorah that now stands as one of its most iconic symbols.
As a descendant of Jewish ancestors, Aguiló wished to contribute to the recognition and revival of Jewish history in Catalonia and to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Barcelona Jewish community.
Stained Glass Window by Max Iaffa
Artist Max Iaffa created the beautiful stained glass window that illuminates the synagogue’s main hall.
At its center is the Star of David, adorned with twelve embedded stones representing the Twelve Tribes of Israel. This remarkable artwork symbolizes the continuity of Jewish tradition and the spiritual significance of the Ancient Synagogue of Barcelona.
